Cupping Massage in Ede on the Veluwe
Cups that release deep tension.
With gentle cups I lift your tissue upward instead of pressing down. That opens up circulation, releases stuck fascia and finally gives deep knots room to let go.

What to expect from cupping during your massage
I weave cupping seamlessly into your massage. Here is what a treatment with cupping looks like, from intake to aftercare.
Arrival & intake
We talk through your symptoms and goals, and whether cupping is the right choice for you that day. Any contraindication? Then we choose something else together.
Warming up with massage
First I warm your muscles and tissue with massage. Warm tissue responds better to the suction and the treatment feels more pleasant.
Cupping on the tension areas
I place the cups on your back, shoulders or other problem areas. Sometimes I let them sit, sometimes I glide them across your skin with oil for a deeper, moving effect.
Finishing & aftercare
We finish with massage and I explain what the round marks mean and how to care for them. Drink plenty of water afterwards to support the removal of waste products.
What is cupping massage?
Cupping is an age-old technique in which I create a vacuum on your skin with special cups. Instead of pressing down, like in a regular massage, the suction lifts your skin and the tissue beneath it upward. This creates space between layers of tissue that normally stay stuck together.
I usually work with silicone or glass cups that I glide across your oiled skin. This moving form, also called gliding cupping or myofascial decompression, combines the benefits of massage with the unique pull of the cups. For stubborn knots I sometimes let a cup sit in place for a few minutes.
The round marks that sometimes remain are not bruises. They are a temporary discolouration caused by fresh, oxygen-rich blood being drawn to the area. For most people this fades within a few days to a week. Read more about when and why cupping works.

Benefits of cupping massage
Boosts circulation
The suction draws fresh, oxygen-rich blood into tense tissue. More flow means faster recovery.
Releases fascia
Cupping lifts the fascia and loosens adhesions that limit your range of motion. You move more freely again.
Loosens deep knots
The pull reaches knots and trigger points from a different angle than pressing massage. Stubborn tension finally gets room.
Speeds up recovery
Ideal after intense exercise. Cupping supports the recovery process so you bounce back sooner.
Helps clear waste products
Through improved circulation, cupping helps your body clear waste products faster. Drink plenty of water afterwards.
Calms the nervous system
Although it works powerfully, many people find cupping deeply relaxing. Tension melts away, body and mind come to rest.

Frequently asked questions about cupping massage
No, cupping is safe when performed by a trained therapist who discusses your health beforehand. The round marks that may remain are not injuries, but a temporary discolouration from improved circulation. Cupping is not advised with, among other things, blood thinners, a blood clotting disorder, pregnancy, varicose veins on the treatment area, or fragile or damaged skin. That's why we always discuss beforehand whether it is the right choice for you at that moment.
Want to know more about safety? Read my in-depth blog on whether cupping is dangerous.
They are not bruises. The suction draws fresh blood into the tissue, which creates a temporary discolouration. The colour says something about the degree of stagnation in that area. It isn't painful and fades on its own.
Usually between two days and a week, depending on your skin, your circulation and how strong the suction was. Staying well hydrated and moving gently help the marks fade faster.
Absolutely. Just keep in mind that the round marks can be visible for a few days, which stands out in summer with short clothing or at the beach. Have a wedding, photoshoot or holiday coming up? Then we plan the cupping around it, or I focus on areas that stay covered by clothing.
No. You mainly feel a pulling, sometimes warm sensation on your skin. Most people find it relaxing. With gliding cupping over oiled skin it feels like a reverse massage. Does something feel uncomfortable? Then I adjust the suction right away.
No, I offer cupping as an enhancement to a deep tissue, sports or signature massage, not as a standalone treatment. That's when it works best: your tissue is already warmed up by the massage and I can apply cupping precisely where you need it. So you book a massage and tick cupping while reserving.
You add cupping for €15 on top of the price of your massage. You choose your base massage (deep tissue, sports or signature) and select cupping as an enhancement while booking.
Cupping works with suction on the skin, which brings a few specific points of its own. It is not advisable with blood thinners, blood clotting disorders, pregnancy, varicose veins, or broken or fragile skin on the area being treated, and with fever or an active infection.
On top of that, the list I use for all my treatments applies, because cupping always comes on top of a base massage. Four levels, and the level decides what is possible.
1. No contra-indication: nothing needs to be left out or held back.
Osteoarthritis · Pelvic floor complaints and diastasis · Work-related overuse · Breastfeeding · Burnout and chronic stress · Fibromyalgia · Heel spur · HSP, ADHD and autism · Jaw tension and teeth grinding · Lower back pain · ME/CFS and long covid · Stomach and bowel complaints · Miscarriage and pregnancy loss · Neck pain and a stiff neck · Overworked muscles from sport · Menopause symptoms · Postpartum · Rheumatoid arthritis in remission · RSI and CANS · Scoliosis · Sleep problems and restless legs · Tension headache · Muscle soreness after training · Work-stress shoulders
2. Relative contra-indication: the massage goes ahead, but I adjust pressure, position or technique, and sometimes leave the cups out.
Facial paralysis · Anxiety and panic · Asthma and COPD · Pelvic instability · Trapped nerve · Blood thinners · Carpal tunnel syndrome · Depression · Diabetes · Dizziness · Intermittent claudication · Frozen shoulder · Swollen lymph node · Herniated disc · High or low blood pressure · Hypermobility and EDS · Sciatica · IVF treatment · Cancer and aftercare · Caesarean section · Knee complaints · Groin injury · Lipoedema · Runner's knee · Lymphoedema · Menstruation, PMS and endometriosis · MS, Parkinson's, epilepsy, stroke · Kidney problems and dialysis · Nut allergy · Oedema · Oil allergy · Osteoporosis · Tendon irritation · Psoriasis in remission · Raynaud's · Thyroid complaints · Shin splints · Varicose veins · Lumbago · Strong painkillers · Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow · Tinnitus · Trauma and PTSD · Ankylosing spondylitis · Pregnancy
3. Local contra-indication: I place no cups on that area and massage around it.
Acne, rosacea and folliculitis · Bursitis · Eczema · Sprained ankle · Gout · A lump or pain whose cause isn't known · Cold sore · Hives · An open wound or bruise · A local inflammation or inflamed joint · Recent fracture · A muscle tear or strain · Fresh tattoo, 4 to 6 weeks · Fresh piercing, until it has closed · Fresh scar · Athlete's foot and nail fungus · Molluscum contagiosum · Warts · Sunburn
4. General contra-indication: there is no treatment and we push your appointment back.
Acute injury, the first few days · Acute psychosis · An acute situation that needs a doctor first · Phlebitis · Shingles · Heart condition, untreated or unstable · Concussion · A skin complaint of unknown cause · Fever, flu or covid · Impetigo · Lice · A migraine or cluster attack · A mole that is changing, growing, itching or bleeding · Under the influence of alcohol or drugs · An infected tattoo or piercing · Recent surgery · Ringworm · High-risk pregnancy without approval · Scabies · Strong painkillers that leave you drowsy or dizzy · Thrombosis or suspected thrombosis · Whiplash, the first few days · Erysipelas and cellulitis · A torn calf muscle, the first two weeks
Unsure? Let me know beforehand and we will look together at what is possible. It remains your responsibility to inform me of any medical conditions or injuries before the treatment.
