What to expect during a deep tissue massage
Every deep tissue session follows four steps, from intake to integration. So you know exactly what to expect when you arrive.
Arrival and intake
We take time to talk through your complaints, your goals and your body. That way I know exactly where to focus.
Deep, slow movements
With slow, sustained pressure I work layer by layer deeper into your muscles. Scar tissue and adhesions dissolve, tension melts away.
Targeted work
I focus on your specific problem areas: knots, trigger points and spots of chronic pain. I work through them one by one.
Leave floating
Take your time to unwind with a cup of tea. Shower available. You leave lighter, looser and freer.
What is deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage is a powerful therapeutic technique that targets the deeper layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia. Using slow, firm pressure I release adhesions that develop through injury, poor posture or overuse, so your body can move the way it was meant to.
During the session I use sustained, deep strokes that encourage your muscles, fascia and tendons to relax and realign. This helps reduce muscle spasms, improve circulation and increase your range of motion.
Scar tissue often forms as a result of injuries and can leave muscles tight and painful. Deep tissue massage helps break down this tissue and promote healing, partly by increasing collagen production and improving blood flow. The result is less inflammation and faster recovery.

What clients say about deep tissue massage
Best massage I've ever had! I arrived with an overtired body and quite a few aches. After the massage they were practically gone. Michalis is very relaxed and the location is a wonderfully calm and serene space. I will definitely be back!
My experience with Michalis was out of this world good and I highly recommend him!
Absolutely divine, wonderful energy.
I'd been struggling with my neck and shoulders for months. After one deep tissue session with Michalis the difference was enormous. He knows exactly where the tension lives and works with real precision.
Fantastic experience. Michalis really takes the time to listen to what you need. The pressure was perfect, firm but never too much. My back pain is finally under control.
I've been several times for deep tissue and it's been excellent every single time. The studio is peaceful, Michalis is professional and you feel at ease straight away. Highly recommended!

Frequently asked questions about deep tissue massage
Deep tissue massage uses more pressure than other forms of massage, and that can sometimes feel uncomfortable, but it should never be unbearable. During the session I check in with you regularly and use a scale system so you learn what works for you. You're always in control: tell me to go lighter and I will, no questions asked. The goal is therapeutic intensity, not pain.
A relaxation massage uses long, flowing strokes to ease tension and help you unwind. Deep tissue massage goes a step further: with slower movements and sustained pressure I reach the deeper layers of your muscles and fascia. It's more targeted and therapeutic, focused on specific problem areas rather than general stress relief. Not sure which technique suits you? Let me know and we can work out together what would serve you best.
For targeted work on one area, such as shoulders or lower back, 60 minutes is often enough. I can either zoom in deeply on one problem zone or give an express full-body massage. With 90 minutes I have the space for a thorough full-body deep tissue treatment. It takes at least 45 minutes for your nervous system to truly settle, so if you want to surrender to the session and get the maximum therapeutic benefit, I'd recommend a longer session. My pricing is structured so that a longer session works out cheaper per minute, making it easier to choose yourself.
Deep tissue massage is not recommended in cases of: fever, contagious skin conditions, severe heart disease, recent surgery, fractures, acute inflammation or haematomas. If you are pregnant, have a blood clotting disorder or use blood thinners, please consult your doctor first. There are too many possible contraindications to list here, so it is your responsibility to inform me of any medical conditions or injuries before the treatment.
Some people experience mild soreness for 24 to 48 hours after deep tissue work, similar to how you feel after a good workout. This is completely normal and a sign that your body is recovering. Drink plenty of water, take it easy, and the soreness will pass. Most people feel significantly better within a day or two than they did before the treatment.
Absolutely. Deep tissue massage can reduce muscle soreness and stiffness, improve range of motion and increase blood flow to the muscles, all of which support recovery and performance. I'm also trained in sports massage, a specific modality focused on improving athletic performance and recovery.
I work on the table with organic oil, so for the best result you undress to the level where you feel comfortable. You lie under a towel and I only ever uncover the area I'm working on at that moment, the rest stays covered. If anything feels off for you, just say so and we'll adjust it. Your comfort always comes first.
Not much is needed. Try not to come on a very full stomach, drink a glass of water beforehand, and don't schedule the massage right before a hard workout or a busy evening. Have a think in advance about where you're feeling it and what you want to achieve, because we'll discuss that during the intake. The clearer you are about what you want, the more targeted I can work.
That depends on your complaints and your goal. For chronic tension or a specific problem, a series of a few sessions, every one to two weeks, often works best. Once you've found relief, a maintenance session once a month is enough for many people to stay loose. We'll discuss during the intake what's realistic for your body, I'll never talk you into more than you need.
Take your time to ease back in with a cup of tea, there's a shower available if you'd like one. Drink plenty of water that day, as it helps your body clear the waste products we've loosened. Try not to plan a heavy workout straight after the treatment and give your body room to integrate what we've worked free. A warm bath or a quiet evening often feels wonderful afterwards.
Not at all, many people who come to me are doing this for the first time. We start gently with an intake where I get to know your complaints and your body, and I build the pressure up layer by layer so your body has time to adjust. I check in with you regularly and you don't need to know or do anything in advance. The only thing I ask of you is that you're honest about what you feel.
That's entirely up to you. Some people like to chat, others prefer to close their eyes and sink into the session, both are perfectly fine. What I do always ask is that you speak up the moment the pressure becomes too much, or could go deeper. That feedback helps me work at exactly the right level for your body.
Absolutely. Deep tissue pairs well with sports massage if you're active and want to support your recovery, which I'm also trained in. If you want genuine rest alongside the therapeutic work, book a longer session so there's room for both the targeted work and relaxation. Not sure what suits you best? Let me know and we'll look at it together.
